The new 8TV show will revolve around a bunch of youths within the indie scene. Of course, it's none other than Gol and Gincu's Lina Tan who's teaming up with writer and director, Fizzi and Fendi for an insightful look into the indie music scene.

The plan is to release KAMI- The Movie as well as KAMI- The Series, an 8 part TV mini series on 8TV. It goes without saying that this project will incorporate music from the best groundbreaking Malaysian bands today. Adding to that, the KAMI project will start off with 3 gigs in 3 cities. Some of the names attached to the gigs are Estranged, Love Me Butch, One Buck Short, Pop Shuvit and Meet Uncle Hussein among others.

Incidentally, Meet Uncle Hussein is responsible for the KAMI theme song titled "Lagu Untukmu" as well as "La La La Kerjalah", which are both featured on KAMI - The Album.

How To Improve Your Singing Voice

Written by kaitor on 10:41 AM

I believe everyone love to singing and can sing either is sound nice or not. If you truly love music and singing, it need you passion to learn and improve your voice skill. These skills need a few techniques and you must make sure it become as your routine. The professional singer out there also had a vocal class in the beginning of their carrier. If they are successful, why you cannot? The key is you life… if you want to be a prime minister then you will be, if you wish to be a lecturer then you will be and if you really love to be a singer or artist then you will be.. but it must come with your hardworking to archive it. Here I found some of the million tips from the internet how to improve your singing voice. You can try it in your home.. good luck :)

1. Keep your arms slightly away from your body. Clasp your hands out in front of you or bring your arms to your sides and a bit forward, raising them about 6 inches in a flexible, relaxed fashion. This will allow your ribcage to fully expand and your lungs to fill to capacity. More air allows you to project your voice more strongly and clearly.

2. Keep your feet about shoulders' width apart. If you like, one foot can be further forward than the other. Make sure you're solidly balanced, but still flexible. Slightly bend your knees. If you must sing while sitting, make sure both feet are flat on the floor and that you're sitting up straight, but not stiffly.

3. Relax! Tension destroys vocal tone. Try not to let your shoulders hunch up and keep your neck from tensing. Don't force your chest out and up when you breath in. This will actually constrict your air flow. Stay in motion, however slightly. This will relax your body and your tone will sound more natural. Try gently swaying from side to side with the rhythm. You'll look better, too!

4. When you inhale, push your stomach out. This will allow you to more completely fill your lungs. As you exhale, bring your stomach slowly in, using the muscles of your diaphram (which is just under your ribcage) to control your notes.

5. If you have to hit a high note or you hear yourself singing flat (that is, your notes are a tiny bit too low), raise your arms a little higher and smile slightly. For very high notes, try closing your eyes and turning your face up slightly.

6. Conversely, if you start to sing sharp (a tiny bit too high), bring your arms down a little lower and open your mouth slightly wider by dropping your lower jaw. Don't dip your chin towards your neck, however, as this will cause your air flow to become constricted, which will show up in your voice.

7. Enjoy yourself! If you take all these tips to heart, singing could become a habit. :)

Su Rey shines on

Written by kaitor on 9:49 AM

CHOW EE-TAN revisits some of the most popular Chinese rock and ballad hits of the 1980s with Taiwanese legend Su Rey.

SHE may have been lying low in recent years but the minute Taiwanese songbird Julie Su Rey stands on the stage, there is no denying that her shining star has not diminished.

After all, this is the artiste who brought us the famous movie theme song Jiu Gan Tang Bui Bo (Wine Selling Song) and the sensational rock-feel The Same Moonlight.

Between 1983 and 1988, the singer with a unique raspy voice and charismatic showmanship cut 10 records, all of which were bestsellers. Many of her songs hit Top 10 charts in Taiwan and Hong Kong and she was a pioneer among Taiwanese artistes to have staged concerts in Hong Kong and successfully made her mark in the region.

After a seven-year hiatus from Malaysian stage, Su Rey returned with a blast in the Su Rey Live in Genting 2007 concert at Genting Highlands’ Arena of Stars recently. It was a nostalgic affair, filled with great and familiar music. Yes, she still commands full-house, mainly the middle-aged. But there weresome young children who had tagged along!
She appeared on stage clad in a white blouse, short black skirt and black knee-length boots and gave us one hit after another covering genres rock, jazz and ballad.

She didn’t forget her biggest Cantonese hit Going Ahead with Love.

She may be in her 50s now but Su Rey is still very much the rock chick she once was, evident by her music and style.

Although she’s no longer a contemporary pop idol, the atmosphere throughout the two-hour concert was as warm and passionate as before. The applause and the cheering never stopped.

It was obvious that her fans adore her. There were shouts of “Su Rey, I love you!”, to which the delighted singer replied affectionately: “I love you too!”

Taiwanese rock duo Power Station were her guest artistes and when they burst onto the stage with the high-energy Passionate Dessert, the audience immediately got on their feet and sang along.

The duo, casually clad in white T-shirt and blue jeans, also showed off their grasp of our national language by greeting the audience in Malay.

They later teamed up with Su Rey, who reappeared in a black patent trench coat, to give a superb rendition of The Same Moonlight which climaxed into an explosive rock chorus. When she sang her beautiful sentimental numbers such as Yes Or No and Change, her sultry voice was so full of emotion it gave us goose pimples!

Later on, there was another surprise guest artiste in the form of Malaysian singer-songwriter Wing (Chiu Wei Yi), who sang Moon Represents My Heart, a mellow and more sensuous version, before singing his own song, More Love Than Love, which also saw himplaying the guitar.

Wing paired with Su Rey, whom he affectionately referred to as his big sister and role model, in the moving Please Follow Me.

Su Rey related later she’s loved singing since she was a young girl and was fortunate that her parents had been very supportive.

“Don’t oppose if your children like to sing. Who knows, one day they may find their confidence on stage,” she said, to loud applause. And at this point, she introduced another surprise “guest artiste” — a nine-year-old girl named Rachel whom she specially arranged to do a duet with her.

It was heartwarming to see Su Rey holding the girl’s hand as they sang Dear Child. The girl was so calm and confident and sang her part with ease.

It might have been the music or the warmth shown by her audience, but Su Rey, who is twice divorced, decided to open up and share towards the end of the show.

“Many people are concerned about my love life but in the last few years, it has been a blank piece of paper. Whatever that has happened and whether good or bad, to me, it’s all in the past now,” she said.

She went on to render a song which she said represented her personal life. She crooned Rung Yian (Appearance) with such heartfelt emotion that there were moments her voice choked and there was the glimmer of tears in her eyes.

Of course, she couldn’t leave before singing her most famous song Jiu Gan Tang Bui Bo, which after more than two decades, is still a hot favourite.

Even after Su Rey bid good-bye to the audience for the second time and even after the lights came on, many refused to leave and called for yet another encore.

So the affable Su Rey relented and came out to sing Tomorrow Still Continues On, ending an awe-inspiring and unforgettable evening on a positive note.

Perak Religious Department (JAIP) holds singer over dressing

Written by kaitor on 12:25 AM

It that too sexy? I did know what wrong with hre dress.

The Perak Religious Department (JAIP) has ordered a singer to appear before the Syariah Court for “exposing her body” during a performance and “encouraging immoral activities”.

However, an indignant Siti Noor Idayu Abd Moin, 22, said she was wearing a sleeveless top and long pants when JAIP officers raided an entertainment outlet in Sunway City where she was performing on Tuesday.

“They asked to see our MyKad but one officer refused to touch the cards, referring to them as najis (unclean),” she said.

Siti Noor Idayu said the JAIP officers later detained seven people, including four employees of the outlet, and brought them to the department office.

“They put us in a tiny room and turned up the air-conditioner. I heard one officer tell the other: Bekulah dia orang (Let them freeze),” she said.

Siti Noor Idayu said an officer even told her that the money she earned working in the outlet was duit haram (illicit money) and that her parents, children and future generations would all be tainted for using such money.

“They finally wrote me a notice accusing me of dressing sexily and encouraging immorality just because I sang there,” she said.

The notice ordered her to appear before the Syariah Court here on Aug 6.

My Starz LG - Awang Voted Out

Written by kaitor on 11:45 PM

MyStarz LG 2nd concert is better than the first concert. This second concert has started to vote out the contestant with the lowest marks (60% from judgers and SMS 40%). Awang is the first consistence who had been voted out this week. This result is fair because Awang performance on that concert is very poor and run out from the tempo. One thing good in this reality show, contestant who is voted out still can join the MyStarz class. Even Awang cannot perform in MyStarz concert but he still in MyStarz LG house for class. The objective of this reality show is not just to guide how you can be a good singer but at the same time they teach the consistence to be a good producer. That is the point why the consistence who had voted out still can join MyStarz class.

Unfair to say all artistes are `sexily dressed’

Written by kaitor on 1:49 AM

IT is unfair to generalise all artistes as being `sexily dressed’. After all, One rotten apple cannot spoil the whole barrel.

That was the general consensus of artistes and entertainment industry figures contacted yesterday on the criticism of artistes and their supposedly ‘too sexy’ attire.

The issue was raised in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday by Datuk Paduka Badruddin Amiruldin (BN-Jerai), who expressed concern over the tight-fitting and skin-baring outfits that artistes wear.

Figure-hugging clothes, he said, did not reflect Malaysian culture.

He was quoted as saying that “some of the attire seemed to be made from little material, exposing skin and were too tight.”

It was also reported that the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Abdullah Md Zin said Jakim (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) had already issued 40 guidelines for the entertainment industry, based on Islamic values, which included a dress code.

Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez said generalisation is dangerous as local artistes need to compete on a global platform and hence, are required to build a certain image.

“Most of the artistes are balanced between current fashion trends and their Asian values and they know that there is a need for moderation,” said Fernandez.

He said he has not seen the guidelines mentioned by the MP and said he would like to see them.

“We would like to see the guidelines so that it is easier to inform everybody in the industry.

“What needs to be done is to make the guidelines public, so that we can advise those who are involved,” he said, adding that as far as he is concerned, most artistes dress moderately.

“But again, it’s a matter of opinion,” said Fernandez.

Recording Industry Association of Malaysia’s deputy chairman, Norman Abd Halim said he is aware of the guidelines but thinks that entertainers should not be judged on a superficial scale.

A singer and a producer himself, Norman said: “We must look at the substance and whether they can bring more positive influences to the public.”

He said most of the artistes have good taste and while some may have a desire to stand out, it is important to act within the accepted norms of the community.

“It has been proven that those with a ‘cleaner’ image are better accepted by Malaysians,” said Norman.

“I think we should look at the problem from a holistic perspective and not blame entertainers because they are easy targets — local artistes should not be undermined,” he said.

For actress Maya Karin, the guidelines have been made known to her since her modelling days.

“But I did not know there are 40 guidelines. As artistes, we are aware of the dos and don’ts,” said Maya.

“It is disappointing that because of a few cases, we get generalised. It is also disappointing that we need to be taught on how to conduct ourselves,” said Maya.

Actress Umie Aida thinks how he or she dresses is the right of each individual.

“The younger ones may want to try out something different but just because a few can be quite daring does not mean they represent the whole lot of us,” said Umie.

She said it is better to focus on the positive things that can be done to improve the industry, rather than concentrate on the misconduct of a few.

“It will be more worthwhile and beneficial for all quarters to try to improve the industry,” said Umie.

Celebrity Sazzy Falak thinks there are more important things to be discussed than the attire.

“What constitutes sexy, anyway? There’s a difference between sexy and trashy.

“The most important thing is to be respectful and to be able to carry yourself in different environments so as not to upset anyone,” shrugged Sazzy.

Malaysian what do you think, are they too sexy ? I guess NOT because its still better compare to the other country. em.. whatever... everybody get their own reason to state the sexiest level.

KRU’s dream team eyes Indonesia

Written by kaitor on 12:59 AM

KRU Music Dream Team ‘07 is signing up new Indonesian talents in search of business opportunities. SHARIFAH ARFAH speaks to KRU Capital president Norman Abdul Halim.

THEY have come a long way since they began as a pop trio in the 90s. Today, they’re a force to be reckoned with in the local music industry. KRU Capital — founded by brothers Norman, Yusry and Edry Abdul Halim — is now a company with a paid-up capital of RM15 million.

After years focusing on the local music scene, KRU Music Group (KMG) — a subsidiary of KRU Capital— is spreading its wings and flying to Indonesia in search of new business opportunities.

At the unveiling of the KRU Music Dream Team ‘07, KRU Capital president and group chief executive officer Norman said signing up new Indonesian talents will give them the opportunity to do so.

The dream team comprises KRU artistes Anita Sarawak, Aznil Nawawi, AC Mizal, Ezlynn and Adam (of AF2) and new additions Dafi (AF5), as well as four groups from TV3’s recently-concluded vocal group competition Gang Starz.
Those from Gang Starz joining KMG’s stable are Indonesia’s The Lima, Pianka and Mendua as well as Malaysia’s Flava.

For The Lima alone, the contract is for a year with the option to renew for another three years.

“However, renewal will be on a year to year basis. Estimated investment per album (marketing and promotion) is RM150,000 for each project,” said Norman.

The groups were chosen because they fit KMG’s artiste and repertoire direction and corporate strategy to establish KRU’s business operations in Indonesia.

“We have been searching for a female girl group since Elite’s contract expired in 1999 and that is why we chose Pianka, though their music will not be anything like Elite,” he said.

Norman said KMG signed Flava due to the group’s mainstream pop image while Mendua was selected for their unique composition of male and female group members.

On why it’s easier for Indonesian artistes to break into the Malaysian market and not the other way round, Norman said: “Malaysia is more accepting of artistes who sing in other languages. I think it is different for the Indonesians as they find Malaysian words with different meanings hard to grasp.”

Realising that differing musical tastes could also lead to problems when it comes to marketing Indonesian artistes, Norman said the company prefers to see Indonesia and Malaysia as one market.

“Therefore, our products must be made based on both markets’ expectations and needs. With our Indonesian artistes and incorporation of KRU in Indonesia, we will be able to enhance collaboration between Malaysian and Indonesian artistes, composers, producers and music video directors. It requires time, effort and money. We will get there someday and this is the beginning of bigger things to come.”

This first concert, judges and audience no need to give marks or vote because it is a free show and the purpose is to introduce all the final 12 contestant. Naz and Daphne is the host and they make the show really interesting.

Emeer started the show with the song "tiada lagi yang ku harapkan".. that is the lyric of this songs. Sorry did not remember the title of the songs :P. At the beggining of the songs, i did not really like because the note is too low. His songs start heard nice when he reach the chorus. Even he is 11 years old, he really have a talent to be a good performer. His voice is not too bad. He might have a lot of potential, that why MyStarz LG choose Emeer to join this show. The judges giva a positive comment ho his performance.

"Ghazali Untuk Rabiah" is the second songs brought by Afiff as the second contestant.
His voice tone is good for this songs and it Dato Siti Norhaliza give a compliment. "To be hones, i did not see Afiff's special.. but maybe it will gleaming soon". If you like Afiff to be the winner of this reality show, do not miss the concert next week and vote him.

The third contestant is Russel with the songs 'What's Up'. Russel had change the arrangement of this song and it really nice and his playing guitar and make his performance really nice. He is very talented and maybe can go far in this show.

Tashya is the fourth contestant and her songs is call "Stranger". She preform well but maybe the judges did not satisfied with her performance. She look really small because the guitar is quite big.

Badri songs is "Manis" and he is the fifth contestant. He also get a good compliment from the judges.

Rachael is the second youngrs in this reality show. The title of the song is "mencintaimu" She sang verry well and all the judges give a good compliment. Rachael and emeer is quite busy because beside concentrate on the show but they have to give a space for their study. :) Rachael is 14 years old but the way she songs such as a profesional.

"Summer Of 69" was brought by Ijam. He preform good and got a compliment from the judges. His tone is really nice. Mimi was songs is "Cahya".
